The Daily Yonder publication and senior projects

In her senior multimedia class, Jade created a short-form documentary video about the Asian Experience in Appalachia that was published in the Daily Yonder and her story was featured in two West Virginia Public Broadcasting segments - Inside Appalachia and West Virginia Morning for a "behind-the-scenes" of creating the documentary. She also wrote a multimedia piece about food trucks in the Pittsburgh, Maryland and West Virginia area.

As a part of her undergraduate senior project, Jade created a short-form documentary about the Asian community within Appalachia during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through support of her professor Jim Iovino, Jade connected with the Daily Yonder, a new outlet about rural storytelling, for the story to be published which is featured on their website.

Later, in her second multi-media piece, she pushed herself out of her comfort zone of strictly video, to highlight the diversity of the food industry through the emergence of food trucks in the tri-state area. Revival Chili, Pasta and Nancy's Revival (Pittsburgh, PA), Rollie Pollie Eggroll Factory (Morgantown, WV) and Whistle Punk Farm food truck shared unique stories of why they chose their food truck concepts. Although the final layout is not exactly how she imagined it due to limitations on WordPress, the content is rich and showcases her writing abilities in a creative way.
